Create your own gluten-free sourdough starter for delicious breads and baked goods without gluten.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup recently fed sourdough starter (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the flour and water in a large mixing bowl. Stir until no dry flour remains.
  2. If you have a previously fed starter, you can add it to the mixture for a boost.
  3. Cover the bowl loosely with a lid or cloth and let it sit at room temperature for 24 hours.
  4. On the second day, you should see some bubbles. Discard half of the mixture, then add 1/2 cup of flour and 1/2 cup of water. Mix well and cover again.
  5. Repeat this feeding process every day for about 5 to 7 days.
  6. Your starter is ready when it doubles in size within 4 to 6 hours after feeding and has a pleasant, slightly sour smell.

Notes

Use filtered or bottled water to avoid chlorine. Maintain a consistent feeding schedule.
